The Netherlands is found in northern Europe, bordered by the North Sea on the north and West, Belgium to the south and Germany to the East. Often incorrectly called Holland (though often used as understandable shorthand), the adjective Dutch is used to describe anything or anyone associated with the Netherlands.
The Netherlands is a densely populated low-lying country where 27% of its land area and 60% of the population live below sea level, protected by polders and dikes. It has a moderate maritime climate with cool summers and mild winters. The Netherlands is known for its windmills, tulips, cheese and clogs (wood shoes).
